What Are You Playing Wednesday

It is mid-week question time:

  • What games are you playing this week?
  • Would you recommend those games to other Border House readers?
  • What games have you ranting?
  • Are any of those games listed ones that you want to see covered on the site?

I have been busy so the only games I played recently are Kindle apps. I’ve been playing Fruit Quest, Jetpack Joyride, and Azkend.

What have you been playing?

I beat the Livid Dead stage on Rayman Origins Vita. It is sad that the game is over. I will have to pick up Legends soon.

I started Guacamelee! and Lone Survivor on Vita. I am currently in the mines of Guacamelee!

My brother and I finely got to play GTA Online. It is fun, but the economy is done in such a way that it has a real steep grinding component. I don’t see myself spending too much time in the game if that is the case. Given that it is October, I plan to start Dead Space 3 this weekend.

      * finally

Grats on finishing Rayman! I need to finish that one still, about 3/4 of the way through but haven’t played it in quite a while (playing coop makes it harder to find the time).

How are you enjoying Guacamelee!? I almost bought it the other day but decided I’d wait until I finish Symphony of the Night, since I believe they’re similar types of games.

I bought Lone Survivor also but haven’t started yet ^.^

Playing Rayman as co-op is a death wish. I fun death wish, but a death wish none the less. Playing single player on Vita allowed me to slam out all the levels and collect the teeth.

I am enjoying Guacamelee quite a bit. I know the difficulty level ratchets up rather quickly. The game made my trip home from my friend’s wedding go so much easier.

I keep dying in the beginning level of Lone Survivor. I need to figure out that game’s mechanics. So far, it seems like a Silent Hill game on Nintendo.

To make money in Grand Theft Auto Online you’re pretty much stuck doing missions. It’s not that much of an issue though. When you get close to level 20, you’ll earn about $7000 a mission and you can join high level players for missions that pay even more.

I unfortunately didn’t make any progress on Sleeping Dogs this past week, but I did manage to get in a good amount of handheld gaming. My games for the past week:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I started this a long time ago, but never finished it. So I started over and this time I will beat it. It’s fun, but the backtracking can be obnoxious as usual. Looks amazing on the Vita screen, though :O

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony. Started this a few days ago and enjoying it so far. The sprites are absolutely beautiful T.T

Pokémon Y. Just started and put it into my backlog already. It’s fun so far, but I have several other games I want to finish up.

Have also been watching Ike play Beyond: Two Souls, which has been quite enjoyable. Ellen Page is awesome c:

I plan on continuing those two games, making some good progress on Sleeping Dogs and Borderlands 2, and watching Ike play Beyond: Two Souls over the next week.

Does Silver Star Harmony continue the Working Designs tradition of adding silly pop culture references to the townsfolk’s dialogue?

      • Llamaentity says:

Hmm not sure. Haven’t noticed anything in the first town but we shall see XD I’m about two hours in so far. The dialogue is pretty amusing, though, either way

    • Lassarina says:

Oh, man, Lunar Silver Star brings back some memories! This is the voiced PSP version, yes? I liked that one, though I preferred the songs from the PSX/Silver Star Story version.

I am glad you are enjoying Beyond: Two Souls. I have been debating getting a copy.

I got my copy of Etrian Oddysey Untold: Millennium Girl this week, but haven’t started it yet (or continued from the demo that is) because I’m still playing Spelunky.

I gradually got better at the second area (jungle), but was stuck for a long time trying to unlock the shortcut to the third area (ice caves). Eventually I found in a FAQ that a shotgun can also be found under graves marked with ASH. The third area is really hard without a compass, but I’ve had a little fun discovering some secret areas like the haunted castle, the worm and the alien mothership.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this game, because it’s really hard and frustrating. It would be a lot more enjoyable if there were more and easier shortcuts.
Or, of course, cheat codes. Why don’t games have those anymore? Games in the ’90s were so much fun with them.

Having been home sick the last two days meant I actually got some gaming done! I’m still working on Final Fantasy IX (got sidetracked into the infinite pit of grinding that is killing EVERY Grand Dragon, but on the plus side Freya does quad-nine with Dragon’s Crest now), and today I spent a good seven hours on the Legend of Dead Kel DLC for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, because it’s good when I can’t brain and I’d like to finally be done with that game, 110 hours later…

I also finally sat down and cleared all the storylines in Chaos Rings. Ultimately I really like the game, and I found that a lot of the stories it had to tell were really relevant to my personal interests (I ping hard on stories about loyalty and devotion and “back to back against the world,” so this game pretty much had my name all over it.)

Played The Wolf Among Us the first episode of Telltales new offering . I really never knew what I was getting into, having not read the Fable comic series. The cell shaded environment is atmospheric, and the story is gritty and drew me in right away. The premise of fairy tale creatures co-existing with us is interesting and appeals to my imagination. It felt as if I had more time to choose a conversational response this time in comparison to The Walking Dead and there are unlockable collectables. I’m looking forward to the next chapter. I finished The Cave and enjoyed it, though it has it’s flaws. I took all seven characters to the bottom. The Monk was my favourite. I’ve also got a bit stuck on Sleeping Dogs and thinking about just finishing the story line, then doing all the side stuff if I can do that without having to level up too much. I’m between games right now, thinking of starting Remember Me.

@Doug S. How did I not know about Army of Darkness? :) Thanks for the link. Added to DVD queue and bumped to the top!

I’ve been immersed in a combination of Stalker: Call of Pripyat (with the Misery mod) and Bionic Dues. The former holds a special place in my heart as a game with a truly unique setting and playstyle. However, the entire cast is a bunch of white Russian men. I’m guessing that this is because characters aren’t a big emphasis in the game, so the devs were lazy about diversification (most of the time they don’t even get faces-just gasmasks!) and because the source material (Roadside Picnic) portrays stalkers as the men of a desperate white Russian lower class.

Bionic Dues, however, gets a shiny golden sticker for being both a very fun game and one with great breadth of characters. There is a healthy mix of both women and people of color in the playable pilots. It’s rather X-com-ish in its diversity-this isn’t commented on or explained, it’s just how things are.

Since I’ve had to take care of baby, I’ve just tried to do pick and play games so it’s still Style Savvy. However, I’ve been so into it that I kind of want to start a tumblr blog or something dedicated to my file.

But~! I just picked up Pokemon X (finally) and will be dedicating the rest of my time to that now. I’m excited to have a brown avatar and for customization. ♥

I’m going to go get Froakie and Bulbasaur now. ^u^
