Happy Wednesday. It is question time here at the Border House:

  • What games are you playing this week?
  • Would you recommend those games to other Border House readers?
  • What games have you ranting?
  • Are any of those games listed ones that you want to see covered on the site?

This week I have been playing a lot of Pokemon X. I am only at the second gym so, I am not very far in the game. I tend to spend a lot of time in this series trying to catch all the possible Pokemon.

What have you all been playing?

I’m still playing Spelunky (Vita). I managed to unlock the shortcut to the temple by carrying a key all the way from the mines to the end of the ice caves, so now I’m practicing the temple. And dying over and over because of stupid traps of course. I’ve made it to Olmec several times, but haven’t managed to defeat it yet.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony. Making slow but steady progress, not in a rush which is nice. Still in love with the art T.T And to answer Doug’s question from last week, there are some pop culture references in random dialogue from townsfolk XD

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Making quite nice progress with this one. I guess I’ll probably end up trying to discover every room and such, which may take a while.

Sleeping Dogs. Still slowly going through the story (well over halfway done) and most side quests. I’m enjoying it a lot, but I do want to finish it sometime soon to move onto another game on my PC (not sure which yet… so many to choose from).

Borderlands 2. Playing this co-op with my brother still when we can find the time. My assassin is level 14 now.

Sweet! Those were always some of my favorite moments. Long live Bill Clinton jokes!

Has anyone played the Saints Row IV DLC “Enter the Dominatrix”? I want to know how feminist-friendly it is. I loved SR4 so much that I want to throw more money at it, but I don’t want to support the DLC if it represents women poorly (as SR3 did in the past).

    Thanks in advance!

As for what I’m playing, I’m still playing SR4. I’ve found it not only to be incredibly fun, but the character creation and dress-up system has given me a really safe playground to explore my own gender.

I’m also playing WoW, so this week I’m looking forward to getting a chance at punching Garrosh Hellscream in the face since his raid just became available to us casual raiders. :)

  4. I’m still on New Vegas, currently at level 30 and still discovering new stuff/new quests! This game is huge. Also downloaded the Old World Blues and Lonesome Road DLCs, so those will be waiting for me when I finish.

I downloaded MirrorMoon EP from Steam, as it looks really intriguing and everything I’ve read about it is incredibly positive. Can’t wait to play it.

Still playing Guacamelee! on Vita. After not getting very far in the Mines, I found out last night I was suppose to go to the Desert. This game is a lot of fun. I am just not as familiar with the Metroidvania type game style hence spending a week stuck in the mines.

I haven’t played any console games. I hosted a horror movie marathon, so I spent most of my time this week cleaning and cooking. The homemade pumpkin pie cheesecake and mulled wine are delicious. This weekend I hope to actually start Dead Space 3.

My main game this week has been Pokémon Y. Like Gunthera, I’ve been spending my time trying to catch them all and level them to evolution, so I’m not even at the 2nd gym yet. I finally caught Smeargle this morning after a lot of pokéballs and cursing. I actually haven’t played through any of the previous Pokémon games, so I hope this will be my first.
Other than that, on IOS I’ve been playing Marvel Puzzle Quest, Paint it Back, and Bad Piggies.

I downloaded the latest version of Project M not too long ago. It’s a mod of Super Smash Bros Brawl to make it more similar to Melee, as well as re-balancing the characters. It’s quite good, even unfinished, but the AI is poor (then again, it’s a Smash Bros mod). Finding a 2 GB SD card was difficult, I must add.

I also got an old copy of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 a couple days ago. Simple button-mashy, mindless fun. I mostly got it because it has Arale (from Toriyama’s previous manga, Dr. Slump) in it.

I’m putting off getting Pokemon Y (the one with the cooler Mewtwo and Legendary) until Christmas. I’m also getting a WiiU, though I’m still disappointed that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is getting delayed to February.

  8. Emily says:

I’ve been playing truly egregious amounts of Mass Effect 3 multiplayer; I want to go back to ME2 and try a Bro!Shep play through with a Tali romance (even though I think Fem!Shep is the one true Shepard), but I keep getting drawn in by all of the variety of kits in the ME3 multiplayer.

Also a lot of Rayman Origins on the Vita while on the road, since it hit PS Plus recently. It’s not a game I would have spent money on individually, which would have been sad for me.

    • Timmy_Mac614 says:

I just finished Rayman Origins. I am glad you are enjoying it. It reminds of Super Mario Bros. on crack.

  9. wererogue says:

I just finished Tomb Raider, which we already discussed at length, and I set myself up to replay (and hopefully finally finish) Planescape: Torment again. It’s got some pretty big pitfalls from a gender standpoint, but the main characters are all well fleshed out and interesting, and the overall narrative is really interesting.

As a side-note, I’m seeing a fairly gross ad for “Pirates – Tides of Fortune” in the sidebar of this site, which says “WARNING: MEN ONLY” and has a picture of a woman from the waist up in profile wearing only thin straps over her breasts. Can you ask your advert providers to remove it or something?

  10. Doug S. says:

I *finally* beat Tyrant Overlord Baal in Disgaea 3. There’s still some more random crap to do, but I’m going to call the game finished anyway. I’m also still plugging along in SMT IV on the hardest difficulty. I’ve been getting killed a lot, what with the enemies doing double damage and running away being disabled, so I’ve taken to saving after every fight. Oh, and I’ve gotten all but 5 stars in Plants Vs. Zombies 2.

Ace Attorney 5 comes out tomorrow on the 3DS E-shop, so I expect to be playing that this week.

    • Doug S. says:

Ugh. The copy of Plants vs. Zombies 2 on my iPod Touch is broken. It’s stuck in an endless cycle of failed update attempts. :(

      • Doug S. says:

Problem fixed. (I had to resort to restoring my iPod Touch from a backup, but I got the thing working again.)

  11. Lassarina says:

Still creeping through Final Fantasy XIV plot – I finally unlocked new classes and promptly derailed myself for hours into levelling Culinarian and Fisher, oops. (Also forgot to eat. New rule: no FF14 until I’ve had lunch.)

I gave Anodyne a try on iOS and found the controls atrocious; I’ll consider picking it up if it goes on sale on Steam for the holidays, because I am enjoying the concept, but I just can’t with these controls. I killed myself more often with directional-button “oops!”es than I did anything else.

I’m still patiently slogging along in Animal Crossing; every now and again I go on a fishing spree at the Island and knock half my home loan off in one day, and then I inch along with the 25K or so I earn a day batting rocks and digging up fossils.

And lastly, I’m nearly to the end of my Final Fantasy IX replay, and still loving every minute. This game holds my heart so very, very hard.

    • wererogue says:

Anodyne is in the current Humble Bundle, for Windows/Mac/Linux/Android, and comes with a Steam key
https://www.humblebundle.com/ . You can get it for $1 or pay more than the average (currently ~$6.30) to get 9 games instead of 4.

Given your comments I’ll play it on PC, not on Android :)

      • Lassarina says:

Oooh, thanks for the link! Sadly, I’m not into any of the other things on offer, and I’d rather that a larger chunk of my money went to the devs of Anodyne rather than split nine ways :) $10 isn’t an impossible sum, I’m just irked at the notion of paying full price twice. Hence, holiday sale. :) But I do appreciate the thought!

        • wererogue says:

I don’t mean to be pushy – I’m not saying “you *should* buy this” or anything like that – but if you click the little triangle next to the “Developers” slider when customizing your contribution, you can make sure your entire donation goes to the devs of Anodyne, or most of it, or all to charity – whatever distribution you like. And if you decide later that you like one of the other games you got, you can increase your contribution and, if I recall correctly, customize where that goes too.

I have a really hard time *not* buying Humble bundles because even when I already have the games, I don’t usually have a Linux version.

Been romping my way through M&M:Clash of Heroes … rather late to the game! Some of the “solve in one move” puzzles drive me crazy. It’s been lovely relaxing with it after work. It feels like another game I played but I can’t remember which one.
