Belfry gargoyle from Dark Souls 2

Belfry gargoyle from Dark Souls 2

Happy mid-week everyone!

  • What games are you playing this week?
  • Would you recommend those games to other Border House readers?
  • What games have you ranting?
  • Are any of those games listed ones that you want to see covered on the site?

I played a lot of Dark Souls 2 this week. Currently, I am stuck on the Belfry gargoyle battle. Though I like the call back to the previous game, this battle is really difficult for me!

What have you been playing?

Still playing pokemon pearl, progress is rather slow, growing quite weary of bidoofs. I’m also a few chapters in on Edward’s route in Be My Princess, it’s pleasant enough but he’s still kinda bland. I miss Gaia from A Knight’s Devotion, dangit, he was a way more entertaining imaginary iphone boyfriend.

I’m messing about in the Storium beta, anybody else in there? I was curious but nervous about the medium so I invited a dear RP buddy from WoW to play an experimental one-on-one game just to figure out how it works and pound out the kinks. It’s not really set up for so few players, but it’s still fun, and I really did need this chance to fiddle around with only a tiny and trusted audience before I hopped into RP with a bunch of strangers. I wish I could set more challenges per scene, though…

Still not done with Sorcery Saga. I got the trophy for 75% of items seen last night. Just a little bit longer to (C)omplete it.

I finished Bravely Default: Where the Fairy Flies (and I do mean finished: both endings, completely filled-out encyclopedia, every enemy skill, all jobs maxed, there is nothing left to do in this game Rina put it down). My overall opinion is that it was an amazing game that was great fun; there are some rough spots (Chapter 2 has some really unfortunate writing in it, and Chapters 5-8 can be a drag) but I still loved it to bitty bitty bits. As evidenced by the 100+ hours on my game clock.

Now that that’s done, I’m working on Final Fantasy VI for iOS because my favourite game ever; I’m not entirely sure about the new controls for battle (I think I liked the FF Dimensions/FF5 version better) but I’m still enjoying the heck out of it.

Oh, and I’m still meandering my way through the plot of FF14. It would help if I could stop getting distracted by crafting.

Congrats! I’m really excited for us to 100% it soon, but we still have a little ways to go. I hope you don’t mind if I ask your opinion of certain bits (concerning writing mostly) once we’ve finished it.

I put FFV+VI on hold, but I keep coming by fanart that makes me want to pick up both again, but I’ll probably wait until we’ve finished BD.

Please ask away! I am in the process of constructing a review post for my blog, and I have a lot of thoughts about the pacing and some of the more questionable portions of the story, as well as the ways the story shifts through varying perspectives and effects. XD

Oh, cool! I hope you’ll link to that once it’s complete.

Florem is where 80% of my side-eye for the writing really happens, but there are parts scattered throughout that kind of lift a brow.

But some of the problematic aspects aside, I do kind of wonder about some of the story elements and writing too. I’m really intent on finishing now. >u<

Played a bit of Fez. The central gameplay conceit is neat, but I’m reaching a point where I wish more had been done with it. Unlike Braid, which continually re-interprets its mechanism to keep puzzles new and challenging, I haven’t had to stretch my understanding of Fez’s 3D/2D thing in a long while now. About 24 cubes in, and I’m REALLY dreading having to do some tetris puzzles. I don’t want to push blocks, I just wanna rotate the world!

Also been playing some Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Dark Souls meets The Ocarina of Time. With…vampires? Ex-vampires? Whatever, the setting is pretty cool. Gameplay is getting a bit tiring.

Finally, binging back on Uplink. God damn I love this game. If only I could figure out how to frame someone.

We’re still playing Bravely Default and Pokemon X.

    I’m a bit depressed because a few games just came out that I want, but I don’t think we’re going to buy them any time soon. vuv;

The lack of new Steven Universe is also pretty disheartening, and I’m hoping we’ll get new episodes weekly soon.

    [Fawful]I HAVE FURY![/Fawful]

That is, my Marvel Puzzle Quest alliance finished high enough in Season 1 to win Nick Fury. ;)

Anyway, in addition to MPQ and Brave Frontier, I’ve tried out Final Fantasy Dimensions. Not very far into it, but it has that FFIV/V feel down pretty well.

Incidentally, I bought the Game of Thrones PS3 game on a 5 dollar PSN sale, but I probably won’t be playing it for a while.
