Breaking down borders in video games.
Around the Web – 12/2/09
Lots of interesting news going on today, here is what we didn’t get to!
Mashable reports that Facebook and MySpace are cracking down again on sex predators.
Microsoft’s marketing guidelines require one female to be in any Xbox Live promotional shot in a group of three avatars or more. (WTF?)
Texas researcher finds that people who play antisocial personas are generally antisocial and unpleasant in real life.
A disabled gamer sues Sony for a lack of access to virtual worlds.
Everquest 2 developer Emily “Domino” Taylor talks about her experience playing a female character, and whether you have to play a false idealistic looking character to get freebies.
EA Sports will stand by Tiger Woods, despite the current controversy over his possible affair and car accident.
Readers, what else have you found that we missed?
Special reader question: What should we name this daily column? (Well, as close to daily as needed anyway). ”Around the Web” is a little bland.

The Border House name makes me think of things like
News from Other Outposts
or
Mail from Distant Outposts
and the like.

Mm. Makes me wish I had some minimal art skills, if either of these were chosen I’d like to draw an icon of a mailcarrier playing with a handheld while going door to door. =)

I guess Microsoft wants to make sure their advertising is inclusive of women? I think that’s nice. They also say to “consider including different ethnicities.” They’re making an effort not to exclude people from their advertising.

As for ideas of a title:
Button Press
Press &/'n Play
Plug &/'n Press

Sorry for the double post, have an awful habit of not plugging in my laptop before the battery runs out and could tell if the first one ever got through before it blinked off.

As far as general names go, I like 8mph Ansible’s suggestion of Press n’ Play (or Press & Play), but if you’re looking for a name that reflects the blog specifically, uh…On the Border’s Edge (as in, stuff that topically merits discussion, but you didn’t have enough time to write a post on it)?
