Community Event: Roleplaying Campaign

Cover of the Savage Worlds rulebook: The Savage Worlds logo on top, a passport and photograph of step pyramid near a volcano, and the words "Explorer's Edition" on the bottom.

You asked for it and so it will happen.

The campaign will be a custom-made superhero setting based on the Savage Worlds rules. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with these rules, as they are quite simple as roleplaying rules go (which is the reason why I choose it).

To participate, come in the IRC Channel and say so. That’s it. In fact, come in the IRC even if you aren’t participating anyway. Server details below:

No schedule as of yet but I hope to get it running in mid-August.

Cool. I think about joining as a necromancer. Are there rules for summoning creatures in the SW book?

    • Corbiu Geisha says:

There isn’t one in the core rulebook but I’ll be sure to check out the companions. In any case, I can adapt one if need be.

  2. KA101 says:

Well, I’ve had bad luck roleplaying & never knowingly used IRC. Guidance requested:

    1) Do I need anything in particular for this quakenet thing?
    2) What sort of character(s) are you wanting?
    3) What sort of norms/conventions should this autie keep in mind?
    4) Why are you (we?) gaming–story, hack/slash, high/low power, etc?

    Thanks much.

    • KA101 says:

      5) What sort of formatting can/not I use?

[That was supposed to be an easily readable list. Gagh!]

    • Corbiu Geisha says:

      1) Just the web client which is in the link, but my personal experience with it wasn’t positive so I used XChat. May not be the same for you.
      2) Superheroes, anything goes and I’ll work with everyone to make it cohesive.
      3) Superheroes are larger than life. That’s it.
      4) My approach would be focused on story. High powered, I imagine.
      5) Formatting?

  3. Doug S. says:

Hopefully we don’t end up in an Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit situation, in which one character is much more powerful than everyone else so they don’t get to do much of anything.

    • Corbiu Geisha says:

That’s why I have yet to release any setting details. I plan to work with everyone during the character creation process so we can have something consistent, including power level wise.

  4. Greg Sanders says:

Cool, I’ve got no room in my life for more campaigns at the moment, but I hope to hear about this one on occasion on what are you playing Wednesdays.

  5. prezzey says:

    Timezones? (Approx?)

Larger-than-life is fun, I am getting all too addicted to the whole concept of the psychokinetic lash (*looks at Mass Effect multiplayer*).

    [IRC trial, take 1. Action!]

OK, just punched in KA101 as the nickname and…something briefly flashed up before blue blankness of the IRC channel background. Looks like the “status” info, on a quick recheck.

quakenet.org has a temp-allow for my NoScript so that shouldn’t be a problem. No dialogue, no typing box. List of people on the side but that didn’t help. I think this is in the “deal with later” category. : – (E>

  7. is a Magical Girl close enough to a superhero? :)

  8. KA101 says:

    [IRC usage, take 2. Action!]

“Join Chat” again; tried login to Q but it didn’t seem to have a create-account button. Will mess with it after I post this.

My apologies to Canisa. I know of no way I can reply to her “Hiya, KA101!” and I fear xe may feel that I’m ignoring her. The -whois on the side gives the result that xyr realname is quakenet so I’m guessing xe didn’t have a login either. What am I missing here?

[This failure brought to you by Agent Smith. "Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is an IRC channel if you're unable to type anything into it?"]

    • KA101 says:

Take 3: successfully found the invisible typing bar at the bottom of the screen. XChat2′s screencap proved the vital clue. Thanks for the lead, CorbuGeisha.
